Character Centered Leadership: What the Military Teaches Future Leaders of America
March 29, 2006
In the white paper, change agents tell us that a major key to their success is uncovering the right talent. Forming the best possible team, and creating an environment of trust is fundamental to the success of their efforts. During an officer leadership course at the U.S. Naval Academy, three students from the Wharton School of Business received some insight into the type of leadership necessary to create just this type of atmosphere, based on honesty and reliance.
A podcast they created examines their experience. The discussion begins by drawing parallels between corporate competition and warfare, and transitions into a conversation in "morale courage,” humility, and ethics. It is a great fifteen-minute audio clip, in which the students give several excellent examples of leaders actually doing the right thing, and not just preaching it.
