Newt Gingrich’s name was brought up many times during the change agent study for his work as Speaker of the House in the 1990s. We took at run at interviewing him for the change agent paper, but unfortunately his schedule would not permit. Lately, he has been speaking about leadership in a historic context, and in many ways his words echo the change agent paper around leadership and listening.

On Monday, Newt spoke at the University of South Dakota, and discussed the traits of great leaders. He used George Washington to illustrate a leader who listened in order to determine what course to take- whether in battle, or in legislation. The takeaway message being, "the key to a leader is you listen first." Beyond leadership traits, there was also discussion of many other topics, from the Iraq to the recent debates around immigration. Take a read here.
